Mitsubishi Air Source Heat Pump & Hot Water Cylinder Installation in Sutton

A Sutton homeowner wanted to replace their gas boiler with a renewable heating solution to future-proof their home. By installing a high-efficiency air source heat pump, upgrading radiators, and improving system controls, we delivered a low-carbon, energy-efficient heating system built for long-term optimal performance.

The Challenge

The homeowner wanted to transition away from a gas boiler and ageing hot water cylinder to a renewable solution that would reduce their carbon footprint and lower energy costs. The property was already well insulated and featured underfloor heating on the ground floor, making it a good candidate for an air source heat pump.

However, detailed heat loss calculations showed that two existing radiators were undersized for efficient heat pump operation and would need upgrading. The homeowner also wanted the external heat pump unit positioned discreetly on the side of the property above the garage side door, keeping pipework changes to a minimum and locating the unit close to the hot water cylinder in the garage.

Our Solution

We carried out full heat loss calculations to correctly size the system and ensure optimal performance. Based on our findings, we:

  • Installed a Mitsubishi Ecodan 8.5kW air source heat pump

  • Fitted a 250-litre Mitsubishi pre-plumbed unvented hot water cylinder

  • Upgraded two radiators to larger sizes to meet heat demand

  • Positioned the heat pump externally above the garage side door to minimise pipework

  • Upgraded system controls to provide smart, remote control of heating and hot water

  • Powerflushed the entire heating system to remove sludge and protect the new appliances

All works were completed in line with MCS standards to ensure efficiency, reliability, and compliance to current regulations.

The Outcome

The homeowner now benefits from:

  • A fully renewable heating and hot water system

  • Reduced carbon emissions and lower running costs

  • Improved heat distribution throughout the home

  • Smart, remote control of heating and hot water

  • A clean, efficient system protected from long-term performance issues

The result is a future-proofed home with reliable, energy-efficient heating designed to perform efficiently for years to come.
